Pembrokeshire College students learn how to manage money with Barclays Money Skills. Last week, students at Pembrokeshire College benefitted from a series of tutorials and events learning how to better manage their money.
The financial capability programme is part of a national scheme called Barclays Money Skills, which helps young people to learn how to budget and manage their money better. Barclays and the National Skills Academy have developed the scheme for Financial Services and aims to reach 150,000 students this year.
The entertaining and informative tutorials and classroom sessions are based on topics such as food, fashion and independent living. This includes watching DVDs, debating issues in class and fun interactive money management games. Extended Diploma Fashion students organised a Fashion on a Budget – fashion show and students were encourage to sample branded and non-branded food from supermarkets in a Taste Test Challenge. There was also a Shopping Bag Challenge and an exercise demonstrating how much money students would save if they quit smoking!
A national enterprise competition was also open to students, which gave them the chance to win some great prizes including a trip to Barclays London headquarters.
