Following their success in the regional heats, four Pembrokeshire College beauty students competed last week in the WorldSkills UK Finals in the hope of being crowned the ‘best in the UK.’
At the regional heats held in Weston-Super-Mare during the summer, Level 2 student Levi Burks secured first place and Jasmine Richards walked away with third place.
While, Level 3 student Zara Morgan secured first place and Charlotte Poupard-Phillips secured second place making it through to the finals.
Lectures and mentors Sarah Morris and Michelle Jennings attended the competitions alongside the learns and expressed how proud she is of her students, “Our students are testimony to believing in yourself. They have all been resolute, shown attention to detail and brought all of this together to produce an outstanding performance. We are so proud of them all here in the beauty department. Their score, behaviour and performance will be emphasised and held up to the next generation of competitors in the beauty department.”
Levi who is studying the Level 3 diploma hopes to one day set up her own business as a make-up artist and commented how pleased she was with her performance at the competition, “The competition was very intense but we held ourselves together and focused. I find working under pressure is a really good way to test your skills too. Our lecturers have been so supportive and I am really looking forward to putting what I have learnt to use.”
Zara and Jasmine have now secured employment at St Brides Spa in Saundersfoot and Charlotte has secured employment with Bluestone Resort.
The UK Finals which took place at the NEC, Birmingham on the 21st to the 23rd November where, Zara went onto win Gold and Charlotte and Levi secured Bronze place in their respective competitions. These students were part of the Pembrokeshire College squad consisting of 22 students competing across a range of curriculum areas.
