Sun shines on graduates
- Posted by: pembscollegesuperadmin
On one of the most important days in the College’s academic calendar, the sun shone for those graduating in front of family and friends in the imposing atmosphere of St David’s Cathedral. For the third year running, two Universities were represented at the event – the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the University of South Wales.
Almost 500 people attended the event, held on Friday 5 July, to witness students receiving their degrees, HNDs, HNCs and postgraduate awards from Mr Gwyndaf Tobias, Pro Vice Chancellor, Finance and Resources, from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
Mrs Jane James, Policy, Government & Public Affairs, Senior Advisor at Chevron, was the guest speaker who also presented the ‘Student of the Year’ awards.
Director of Business, Development and Community Services, Dr. Geoff Elliott commented: “It is great to see so many people graduating with a degree that they have achieved by studying within Pembrokeshire. Today’s graduation ceremony is testament to the hard work and commitment of both staff and students and highlights that studying for a degree locally really can be a viable option for aspiring graduates.”
The ceremony opened with organ music performed by Simon Pearce, followed by a short musical interlude from the College’s performing arts department with songs from Lawrence Stalbow-Best and Jasmin Owen.
Following the ceremony, graduates and their families enjoyed the atmosphere and the sunshine with a drink in the grounds of the cathedral.
