WorldSkills Success for Pembrokeshire College Students
Three Pembrokeshire College learners were among 26 students from across Wales to bring back medals from this year’s WorldSkills competition held at the NEC, Birmingham, last week (13-15 November).
Bringing home two silvers and a bronze were Sally Sanderson who secured silver in Nail Art, Nicola Ashby who picked up silver in Reflexology and Lauren Edmundson who picked up a bronze medal in Aromatherapy. Meanwhile Luke Lawrence was highly commended in Welding.
The medal winners were part of a record number of nine Pembrokeshire College students who made it through to the WorldSkills UK Finals. Competing in aromatherapy, nail art, reflexology, construction metal work and welding, the students were among over 600 of the UK’s most talented apprentices, employers and learners – including 65 from Wales – battling it out across 70 different competitions to be named the ‘best in the UK’ in their chosen skill.
Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, Julie James, attended the Skills Show and commented: “Congratulations to all of this year’s winners. Skills are vital to the future of our country and it’s great that so many young Welsh people competed in this highly regarded competition. I hope these winners inspire others to learn new skills which could lead to a fulfilling career.”
