A Pembrokeshire College beauty student has been announced as part of the WorldSkills UK Long Squad.
Level 3 Beauty Therapy student, and former Ysgol Dyffryn Taf pupil, Zara Morgan was officially announced as part of the long squad after securing gold at the WorldSkills UK Finals in Birmingham during November. One of 22 students from the College to make it through to the UK Finals, Zara was joined by fellow beauty therapy students Levi Burks, Jasmine Richards and Charlotte Poupard-Phillips plus 18 students from across all curriculum areas.
After securing her place on the Long Squad, Zara is now faced with twelve months of intensive training commencing with attendance at a boot camp for all those who have been selected as part of the UK Long Squad. Throughout the training programme Zara will face intense scrutiny as the UK judges look to select those who will make it through to the short squad to represent the UK at the World Finals in Shanghai in 2021.
College lecturers and mentors, Sarah Morris and Michelle Jennings are extremely proud of all four of their students for making it through to the UK Finals and commented: “Our students are testimony to believing in yourself. They have all been resolute, shown attention to detail and brought all of this together to produce an outstanding performance. We are all so proud of them here in the beauty department.”
Zara has now secured employment at St Bride’s Spa in Saundersfoot where she will continue her training in readiness for the upcoming skills competitions.
Zara is joined in the UK Long Squad by health care student Molly Lawton who secured silver at the UK Finals in Birmingham. This is the second year that Pembrokeshire College has had two students in the UK Long Squad. Both students will now face months of intensive training and competitions in their bid to be selected for the Short Squad – the team that will represent the UK in the next round of WorldSkills to be held in Shanghai in 2021.
