This eight-week course is perfect for beginners or those looking to reignite their writing practice. Each week, you’ll explore a new style or form of writing, from storytelling and poetry to character development and beyond.
Through engaging, practical exercises, you’ll experiment with different approaches to find what excites you most about creative writing. By the end of the course, you’ll have a personalised portfolio that showcases your growth, built week by week as you develop your skills.

This course is non-accredited so you will not be assessed. It is for personal development and fun!
This eight-week course will return in the new academic year.
- No formal entry requirements
- The learner must be over the age of 18
The course will develop your technical and writing skills as you learn the principles of creative writing. Looking at different forms and structures.
Exploring:
- World-building
- Cut-up poetry
- Haiku
- Visual text
- Autobiography
- Writing for children
- Character creation
- Flash fiction
You need to be confident in reading and writing.
You will get the option to choose to complete your portfolio with your best examples from each week or you can choose one style you particularly enjoy and focus on that.
The course tutor will give detailed feedback on the final pieces as well as weekly feedback.
You will receive a College completion certificate at the end of the course.
Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
