This course aims to help plumbers and heating engineers who want to install Vented and Unvented Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems to comply with the appropriate Building Regulations and Standards.
Is this course right for me?
This one day course is for experienced plumbing and heating engineers who want to install Vented and Unvented Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems, and will demonstrate their competence so they can either join a Competent Persons’ Scheme allowing the self-certification of installations, or to notify the local Building Control department prior to commencing work.

What are the entry requirements?
Learners must hold a recognised trade qualification (e.g. NVQ/SNVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing and Heating or Domestic Heating) OR be working towards one OR have evidence of a number of years’ experience in the plumbing or heating industry.

- Hot water systems and their operating principles
- Design and installation of hot water storage systems
- Maintenance of hot water storage systems
- Meeting Building Regulation requirements
- Sealed central heating systems

How will I be assessed?
- Continuous assessment during the course
- Practical assessment during the course
- Practical examination
- Written examination
What can I do next?
Upon successful completion candidates will gain the Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems certificate and Competency Card. Certificates are normally valid for 5 years. Candidates are eligible for reassessment within 12 months of expiry. Previous certificates must be presented to the assessment centre as evidence of holding the initial qualification.
