Paediatric First Aid Course

HABC Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

This course is designed for learners such as parents and relatives, pre-school or nursery staff, toddler group volunteers, childminders and nannies, au pairs and foster parents, or those responsible for caring for infants and children.

Is this course right for me?

This course is aimed at individuals wishing to become paediatric first-aiders in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. This qualification is intended for learners already working or preparing to work in industry.

The qualification is valid for a period of three years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. In addition to this it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.

This two week course usually runs on a Saturday, 09:00 – 16:00.

  • You should be physically capable of completing the practical elements of this course
  • Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
  • Learners must be at least 16 years old

Topics include the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first-aider and providing first aid for an infant or a child who is unresponsive. The qualification also covers how to administer first aid to an infant or a child with head and spinal injuries, who is choking or suffering from anaphylaxis.

Units to be studied include:

  • Emergency Paediatric First Aid
  • Managing paediatric illness, injuries and emergencies

Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

  • Continuous assessment during the course
  • Written examination

Following successful completion of this course learners could look to progress to a higher level course at the College, seek an appropriate Apprenticeship or go directly into employment.
