Is this course right for me?

This curriculum will encourage learners to be inspired, engaged and challenged by following a comprehensive, well-structured and valuable course of study. It will help learners to develop confidence and a positive attitude towards mathematics and to recognise the importance and relevance of mathematics in everyday lives and to society.

This course normally runs one evening per week, for 30 weeks, starting in September.

  • Each application is considered on individual merit

This course aims to broaden mathematical skills necessary for advancing into scientific, technical, or further mathematical studies, including teaching and higher education. It will focus on problem-solving in real-world situations and within mathematics, prompting learners to apply and evaluate various mathematical methods.

All the elements required for Intermediate will be covered and these can be built upon if taking Higher Tier.

Units to be studied include:

Number:

  • Understanding number and place value
  • Understanding number relationships and methods of calculation
  • Solving numerical problems

Algebra:

  • Understanding and using functional relationships
  • Understanding and using equations and formulae

Geometry and Measure:

  • Understanding and using properties of shape
  • Understanding and using properties of position, movement and transformation
  • Understanding and using measures

Statistics:

  • Specifying the problem and planning
  • Processing, representing and interpreting data
  • Discussing results
  • Estimating and calculating the probabilities of events

Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

Access to A-level Maths, to help meet the requirements for certain degree level courses.
