For those who already have a hairdressing qualification and want to develop and refine their skills to go on to work as a senior stylist within the industry.

Is this course right for me?
This is an intensive part-time course compared to the full-time alternative route therefore good attendance, motivation and commitment are required.
Assessments cover a range of skills including creative cutting, styling, performing various chemical services, providing specialist hair and scalp treatments, and consulting with clients. Ideally learners will be working in a salon or may be required to source their own clients to bring into the College’s salon.
This course normally runs one day per week, for 34 weeks, starting in September.
- You will be expected to have successfully completed the previous level in this subject area or similar
- Good personal presentation and communication skills are required
- Each application is considered on individual merit
- Entry is subject to interview if not currently working in the industry
Units to be studied include:
- Creatively style and dress hair
- Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
- Creatively colour and lighten hair
- Provide consultation services
- Develop, enhance and evaluate your creative hairdressing skills
Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
- Continuous assessment during the course
- Portfolio of evidence
- Online examination
- If taken as an apprenticeship then reviews with your assessor and employer will take place every 1-2 months and you will be expected to have developed your skills and knowledge between each review
Following successful completion of this course learners could look to progress to a higher level course at the College, seek an appropriate Apprenticeship or go directly into employment.
- Textbooks - you will be told about any specific items before you start the course, most textbooks are available to loan from the college library or online libraries
- Specific hairdressing kit, which you can purchase online before you start the course
- Hairdressing kit - this includes the basics you will need during the course and into the future - £371
