The SPARC Alliance was established in 2023 following discussions with local industry partners who highlighted the low number of female apprenticeship applications entering the energy sector. At the same time, the emergence of major renewable energy developments across South West Wales brought into sharp focus the scale of the future workforce challenge.
With more than 5,000 jobs forecast across the energy and associated sectors, attracting and developing a broader and more diverse talent pipeline is critical. SPARC was created to inspire, engage and support more young women to consider careers in Sustainable Power, Renewables and Construction, helping to ensure the region can meet future skills demands and maximise the opportunities created by the green industrial transition.
The Alliance funding primarily supports the SPARC Practitioner network through TLR allocations, currently across seven Secondary Schools in Pembrokeshire. This uplift creates the SPARC Practitioner alongside the coordination, industry engagement, and partnership activities required to deliver the SPARC programme.
Schools, colleges, local authorities, employers and industry partners work collaboratively to deliver a coherent approach to raising female aspirations and increasing progression into Sustainable Power, Renewables and Construction (SPARC) careers.
