Course overview
The BTEC National Award in Engineering is designed to meet the needs of the multi-role engineering technicians and equip students with the skills, knowledge and understanding required for a success in a range of engineering occupations.
BTEC National Award (6 units) offers a specialist qualification that focuses on particular aspect of employment within the appropriate vocational sector, in this case, Engineering. The BTEC National Award is a qualification which can extend a learner's programme of study and provide vocational emphasis for learners following an Applied GCE or GCE route or a combination of both in their main programme of study.
The qualification offers progression opportunities in and to employment within the mechanical and electrical engineering sectors and related industries. It also contributes towards the student profile for progression to higher education.
What you can do after this course
If taken as part of a full-time A level / NA programme students could go on to study at degree level in University
Entry requirements
- Five GCSE’s at Grade C or above to include Maths, Science and preferably English Language
- First Diploma at merit plus 1 GCSE (grade C or above) or Key Skills Level 2
- All applicants will be required to bring confirmation of their GCSE results or any other qualification results to an enrolment event before the start of this course
- If you are an applicant over 21 years of age formal qualifications may not be required if you have achieved an equivalent qualification and/or have relevant work experience. Each application is considered on individual merit
- Entry is normally subject to interview

How you will be assessed
The programme of learning will consist of assignments which provide the opportunity for coverage of all grading criteria as set out in the grid for each unit. Assignments will be reliable and fit for purpose, giving learners every opportunity to generate evidence which satisfies the grading criteria. The centre will use a variety of assessment methods, including case studies, assignments and work-based assessments, along with projects, performance observation and time-constrained assessments where appropriate.
