Course overview

This course prepares students to work in a supervised capacity with children and their families in a variety of settings. Many practical sessions give students the skills to put theory into practice.


What you can do after this course

NVQ Level 2 in Childrens Care, Learning and Development, Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education, BTEC ND in Health and Social Care, or as a preparation for work in playgroups, families, nurseries, schools, after school clubs or as a healthcare assistant.


Entry requirements

  • Two GCSEs at Grade C or above to include English Language
  • Plus one childcare reference plus one childcare reference from a group setting such as a day nursery or creche (please note we are not able to accept references from private babysitting work)
  • CACHE Foundation Caring for Young Children Award plus GCSE English at grade C or above
  • For mature applicants - Direct admissions to programmes for applicants who have been out of full time education for more than two years will be considered based on previous learning or experience. Each application will be considered on individual merit. We recommend an interview with one of our Careers Advisers before submitting your application.
  • Applicants may have to complete an online basic skills initial assessment at interview
  • All applicants will be required to bring confirmation of their GCSE results and any other qualification results to an enrolment event before the start of this course
