Pembrokeshire College’s Graphic Design and Creative Media students immersed themselves in the world of advertising and branding when they attended a Taster Day at the University Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Swansea College of Art last week.
Hosted by Swansea’s BA Advertising and Brand Design team, the group enjoyed a taste of an exciting creative career by taking part in a branding and advertising exercise.
Martin Bush, UWTSD Course Leader for the Advertising and Brand Design Degree, hosted the day and asked the group to work in small teams to take on the task of creating a promotional campaign to encourage ‘generation Z’ (those born between 1998 and 2016) to give blood, as the majority of blood donors are aged over 40.
Following the task Martin commented: “The students did exceptionally well with the practical task, we were blown away with the diversity of ideas.”
Former College student, Dominic Cunningham attended the event last year and is now an undergraduate on the programme. He came along to the workshop to give students his first-hand insight into the degree and commented: “It was great to see the students interacting with each other to work towards the brief. The outcomes and quality of work was really good.”
Pembrokeshire College Interactive Media Lecturer and Graphic Design lecturers, Denys Bassett-Jones and Louise Sheppard, accompanied the learners and added: “We were delighted to be invited once again to attend this incredibly worthwhile event, the students thoroughly enjoyed the day and it has helped them identify possible university and career options in the creative industry.”
