Designing the docks
- Posted by: pembscollegesuperadmin
Third year architectural technology students from Pembrokeshire College will be holding their annual summer show at the Torch Theatre Gallery from the 21-31 August.
As part of their course students were tasked with working on three projects connected to Milford Docks: a landmark building, a gateway building and conversion of the ice-house.
As the largest fishing port in Wales, over the next five years Milford Haven Port Authority is aiming to attract inward investment to redevelop the docks and to improve the Marina as part of their master plan for the area.
This year, third year degree students at Pembrokeshire College focused on Milford Haven Port Authority’s master plan and consultations to redevelop the docks. The students developed three projects as part of the proposals.
- a new Landmark building at the centre of the dock,
- a new Gateway building – and botanical garden
- Conversion of the former ‘Ice House’ into a ‘Boutique Hotel’
The students took on an enormous challenge in urban and architectural design, construction technology and building detailing to complete the course.
At the summer show a selection of the student’s projects will be on show including drawings and models showing the process from initial design to detailed construction, with associated work produced during the year. The exhibition will be open to the public from 21-31 August.
