Former Pembrokeshire College students, Laura Scott and Emily Morris have seen their careers in the Hospitality industry go from strength to strength after finding employment at exclusive and luxury hotels.
Laura now works at the elegant Pennyhill Hotel and Spa, Surrey which is set in 123 acres of parkland near Windsor Castle. Starting her career in the kitchen, Laura quickly transferred to a front of house role, working in their prestigious two rosette brasserie and two Michelin starred restaurant. In just five years Laura gained a wealth of experience at the hotel which lead to a promotion as Restaurant Manager, and more recently, after being crowned Manager of the Year, sailed through a four-interview process for a place on the sought-after Master Innholders Aspiring Leader Course. Laura got in touch with her former College lecturers to tell them her good news.
Pembrokeshire College Catering and Hospitality Lecturer, Rose Butler said, “Laura was no stranger to success at College having attended the Welsh Culinary championships, winning Student of the Year and and obtaining a bursary. She was quite a nervous student to start but she flourished as her knowledge grew. We’re all thrilled to hear how well she’s doing!”
Meanwhile, former level 3 Hospitality and Leadership student from 2015, Emily Morris has expanded her career at the 5 star Gleneagles Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort in Scotland. Emily initially received sponsorship from the Haverfordwest branch of Soroptimist International. This enabled her to gain a six-month work placement that quickly turned into a permanent position. Emily has since climbed through the ranks at Gleneagles and has recently been promoted to the role of Supervisor at the Dormy restaurant situated at the clubhouse. Emily said, “It was great to have such a valuable work placement as part of my course. It really helped me to focus on my aspirations.” Rose Butler added, “Emily was a focused student who always conducted herself in a professional manner. As soon as she started her work placement at Gleneagles she knew it was the place for her, and they liked her so much that they offered her a permanent position. We’re really pleased that it’s worked out so perfectly for her!”
