This year has been another outstanding year for students collecting their A-level results at Pembrokeshire College with a 100% pass rate across all subjects and over 200 A-levels and Extended Diploma students now hopeful of securing their places at university.
At A*-B, A*-C and A*-E, Pembrokeshire College students have achieved above the Welsh comparator with a particularly strong performance in the STEM subjects where 80% of students achieved A*-C grades against a Welsh comparator of 76%.
With an A* in Physics, Maths and Chemistry and an A grade in Further Maths, James Horton is set for great things and is currently exploring all his options. Meanwhile, after achieving two A* grades in Physics and Mathematics and an A grade in Further Mathematics, high-flying student Elis Elliott is off to read Computer Science at the University of Manchester. With aspirations of starting his own business Elis commented: “All of my lecturers have been great. They really know their subjects and make you want to learn. Thanks to their support I’ve got some great results and am now really looking forward to starting my course at university.”
With an A* and two A grades, Gabriella Fecci is set on pursuing a career in Dental Surgery and is awaiting confirmation of a place at Plymouth University while, with two A grades and a B, Daniel Lewis will be studying Optometry in Cardiff University. Katie Warbrick’s two A grades and a B have secured her a place to read Politics with Economics at the University of Bath.
After collecting her results Katie commented on how much she had enjoyed her time at College: “Despite it being a big place I have found College a cosy place to study. The A-level lecturers are fab, they treat us like adults but are there to provide any support we need.”
Other student university destinations include: Exeter, Bristol, Liverpool and Cardiff.
The College also saw BTEC National Diploma students excelling with Fraser Martin achieving D*D*D* in the Extended Diploma in Computer Science (equivalent to three A* grades at A-level) alongside an A* in Maths giving him a staggering 500 UCAS points. Fraser will now go on to read Computer Science and Business at the University of Bath. Fellow diploma student Harry Myers also achieved D*D*D* in Operations and Maintenance Engineering. With distinction grades in all his units, Harry will now complete another year of studies before applying to the University of Leeds to read Music, Multimedia and Electronics – proof that Extended Diplomas can be a real alternative to A-levels for students looking to progress to university.
After receiving this year’s A-level results, Deputy Principal Dr Barry Walters said: “We are once again delighted with our A-level results. These results are testament to the hard work and commitment of both our staff and students. Setting students off on their journey to university and their future careers is why we are here and seeing such great results, across both A-levels and Extended Diplomas, further proves our commitment to delivering the highest quality teaching and learning. We wish all our students the best of luck as they now progress either onto university or into employment.”
With 26 A-levels to choose from, and CAMPUS 6 opening its doors this September, there has never been a better time to apply to study your A-levels at Pembrokeshire College.
