A Pembrokeshire College hairdressing student has proved she has what it takes to stand out in the industry after winning the ‘Vamp it up’ competition at the prestigious Salon Cymru competition 2012 organised by ISA Training.
Nikki Nelson, a trainee hairdresser from Cross Hands, made a memorable debut at Wales's top event for creative hairdressing.
Held at the Swalec Stadium, Cardiff, Nikki entered the ‘Vamp it up’ category where judges were looking for a Vampire Diaries/Twilight inspired look. Stylists were encouraged to create a daring Avant Garde catwalk or fashion shoot look – in the genre of modern day vampires!
Following her victory in the competition, which was open to NVQ level 2 and 3 learners, Nikki who works in Ocean Hair Salon in Saundersfoot said: "I'm still in shock."
"I'm in my first year as a hairdresser and everyone in the college and the salon are thrilled by my success.
"I now can't wait for the next competition. I hope my success inspires other hairdressing learners to enter Salon Cymru next year. I love the event."
More than 120 competitors took part in the event, which was hosted by BBC Wales presenter Lucy Owen and attracted an audience of around 500.
