Pembrokeshire College is proud to announce that its Energy Transition Skills Hub, developed in partnership with Shell UK and the Regional Learning and Skills Partnership (RLSP), has been shortlisted for a Wales STEM Award.
The Wales STEM Awards celebrate organisations and individuals driving innovation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) across Wales. The awards recognise those making a positive impact on the Welsh economy, tackling the STEM skills shortage and diversity gap, and inspiring the next generation.
Shortlisted in the Educational Programme of the Year (Public Sector) category, the Energy Transition Skills Hub (ETSH) is a state-of-the-art Control Room Training Centre designed to address Wales’ energy skills gap and support underrepresented learners.
Through industry-standard process simulation training, ETSH prepares learners for careers in sectors such as offshore wind, hydrogen, food and drink manufacturing, and power generation. The programme offers scenario-based training in process control, instrumentation, and industrial safety, using gaming-level computers and specialist software to replicate real-world conditions in a safe, immersive environment.
This innovative approach builds confidence, breaks down barriers, and delivers work-ready skills that benefit both learners and the regional economy. It’s a powerful example of how private sector partnerships can modernise STEM education in Wales.
Winners will be announced on 16th October 2025 at a black-tie event at the Mercure Cardiff Holland House Hotel.
