Basic Life Support and AED for Adults, Children and Infants Highfield Level 3 Award (RQF)
This nationally recognised qualification is awarded by Highfield Qualifications and is part of the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which is overseen by Ofqual and CCEA Regulation.
The course is designed to equip learners with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed to respond to emergencies involving unresponsive adults, children, or infants. It covers how to perform basic life support (BLS) and safely use an automated external defibrillator (AED) across all age groups.

Is this course right for me?
This short course is ideal for those who may be required to act quickly and effectively in a life-threatening situation—whether in the workplace or the community.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, it is recommended that learners have a minimum of Level 1 literacy to support their understanding of the course content.
To register, learners must be 16 years of age or older.
If any learner may require additional support, please let the Community Coordinator know prior to attending to session.

Assessment
This qualification is graded Pass/Fail. Highfield has created assessment paperwork for each component of the assessment, which are each graded pass/fail.
This qualification is assessed by:
- Practical observation
The practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery. This ongoing assessment requires learners to demonstrate practical basic life support skills. The practical assessment will be recorded using the practical matrix within the Assessment Pack.
- Oral questioning
Learners are required to answer a series of questions ensuring their understanding of the theory content is sufficient to meet the required standard.
Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
- Continuous assessment during the course
- Practical assessment during the course
