Is this course right for me?
This course is aimed at those working in the engineering industry and wishing to gain recognised qualifications which could lead to progression or employment. Learners will develop and demonstrate their knowledge, understanding, behaviours, skills and practice in one of many disciplines.
Each qualification must be completed within 12 months of enrolment.
What are the entry requirements?
- No formal entry requirements
- Level 3 applicants must either hold a relevant Level 2 qualification or at least two years industry experience
- You will be expected to be in relevant job role
- Each application is considered on individual merit
- Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
- Learners must be at least 16 years old

What will I learn?
Mandatory Units:
- Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
- Using and interpreting engineering data documentation
- Working efficiently and effectively in Engineering
- Handing over and confirming completion of maintenance or installation activities
Optional units will be discussed at interview.
Will I need to study additional English & Maths skills?
- the course you are taking at College
- what grades you gained in your GCSE Maths and/or English Language
If you are studying a construction/trade course (brickwork, carpentry, electrical or plumbing):
- Essential Skills Wales (ESW) in Application of Number and Communications
All other courses:
- Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST) in upskilling / Lessons in Financial Education
- A one year GCSE resit course in required subject/s
- A one or two year pre-GCSE upskilling course
- A one year GCSE START upskilling course
Can I do this course in Welsh?
Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

- Continuous assessment during the course
- Portfolio of evidence
- Visits from your assessor to your place of work
- Testimony from employers or supervisors
What can I do next?
Many learners progress to higher level qualifications in the same trade, or higher level qualifications in management.
