This Scholarship scheme offers nationally recognised engineering qualifications and other relevant skills training – an excellent opportunity to be either fast-tracked into an apprenticeship or be recruited as a direct site hire.

Is this course right for me?

The ECITB Scholarship programme on offer for September 2024 is a Full-time Level 2 programme running thirty hours a week for a full academic year with a mixture of practical and classroom activity. Upon completion learners will achieve a Level 2 NVQ Diploma Performing Engineering Operations and Level 2 2850 Certificate in Welding and Fabrication,

In addition, learners will also complete a minimum of thirty-five hours work experience with local companies such as Jenkins and Davies, Rhyal Engineering, Ledwood, Haven Engineering, Altrad Whitland Engineering and Ritetrack .

Learners will be paid a training allowance of £60 per week on a monthly basis for attendance during term time and receive ECITB overalls, safety boots and a polo shirt.

The cut-off date for applications to this programme is 3rd June 2024. Applicants who are shortlisted will be interviewed by a panel made up of College lecturers, local welding & fabrication employers and a representative from the ECITB. Successful applicants will be notified after the interview process has taken place.

  • Two GCSEs at grade C or above to include English Language/First Language Welsh and Mathematics/Numeracy
  • Successful completion of relevant programme (including skills) and decision from progression board meeting

The course will be made up of the following modules:

Technical Qualification – City & Guilds 2850-22 Level 2 Certificate in Engineering- Fabrication and Welding Technology.

  • Working in engineering
  • Principles of engineering technology
  • Principles of fabrication and welding technology
  • Welding by MIG process
  • Fabricating thick plate, bar and sections

Vocational Qualification – City & Guilds 7682-20 Level 2 Diploma in Performing engineering Operations.

  • Working safely in an engineering environment
  • Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Producing platework components and assemblies
  • Preparing and using manual metal arc welding equipment
  • Preparing and using manual TIG or plasma-arc welding equipment

Additional training

ECITB Pre-Employment Programme which will include:

  • CCNSG health and safety passport
  • Manual handling
  • Abrasive wheels
  • Confined spaces
  • Working at height
  • Hand and power tools training

  • the course you are taking at College
  • what grades you gained in your GCSE Maths and/or English Language

Level 3 Welding or Fabrication programme or an advanced Welding or Fabrication apprenticeship. A high percentage of learners achieve apprenticeships after this one year course.

  • You will need to pay a £55 engineering workshop fee each year before you start the course
  • You can rent a locker for £10 per year this will be refunded if the locker remains undamaged and keys are returned
