Is this course right for me?

This course provides all the must-have skills to start a journey in the hair industry; mastering cutting, styling, colouring, and shampooing while developing customer service and consultation skills. Training happens in our fully equipped salon with hands-on experience with real clients. Learn health and safety, salon etiquette and product knowledge to become fully prepared for employment or further study.

  • Two GCSEs at grade D or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/First Language Welsh
  • Good personal presentation and communication skills are required
  • Each application is considered on individual merit
  • Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
If you have gained your qualifications outside of the UK we will use ECCTIS to check their equivalence to UK qualifications. Please upload proof of your qualifications as part of the application process.
  • Successful completion of relevant programme (including skills) and decision from progression board meeting

  • Client consultation for hair services
  • Shampoo & condition the hair and scalp
  • Cut women’s hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Colour & lighten hair
  • Cut men’s hair
  • Cut facial hair
  • Styling men’s hair
  • Working in the hair industry
  • Promote products and services to clients in the salon
  • Health & Safety practice

  • what grades you gained in your GCSE Maths and/or English Language

Learners studying on a Jobs Growth Wales (JGW+) programme will be timetabled into literacy and numeracy sessions. To discuss the opportunity of attending a GCSE resit programme, in addition to their JGW+ timetable, please contact skills@pembrokeshire.ac.uk

Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

Future careers include qualified hairdresser/stylist with a goal of moving to a more technical or supervisory role within the industry or progression to Level 3 Hairdressing (upon successful completion of Level 2).

 

  • Textbooks - you will be told about any specific items before you start the course, most textbooks are available to loan from the college library or online libraries
  • It would be beneficial, but not essential, to bring your own device/laptop to support your studies
  • Hairdressing kit - this includes the basics you will need during the course and into the future - £371
  • Hairdressing uniform - from £43

  • We are waiving the Administration Fee for the academic year 2025/26
  • You will need to pay a £45 hairdressing workshop fee each year before you start the Level 2 course
