Is this course right for me?

This is an intensive course for those who want to add barbering to their repertoire.

This course takes place in a commercial salon environment and learners will require models to complete assessments.

This course normally runs one evening per week, for 19 weeks, starting in January.

  • You will be expected to have successfully completed the previous level in this subject area or similar
  • You will be expected to have successfully completed or be currently studying Level 2 Hairdressing
  • Good personal presentation and communication skills are required
  • Each application is considered on individual merit

Units to be studied include:

  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Develop and maintain effectiveness at work
  • Cut men’s hair using basic techniques
  • Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
  • Dry and finish men’s hair
  • Create basic outlines and detailing in hair

Learners will also be expected to undertake work experience in a salon.

Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

  • Practical assessment during the course
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Online examination
