Is this course right for me?
For those who wish to work and pursue a career in barbering, this course provides the necessary skills and knowledge to become occupationally competent as a junior barber. No previous qualifications in hairdressing are needed to start this course and learners will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Barbering on successful completion.
Learners are required to attend College for one day per week therefore commitment, good attendance and strong organisational skills are required. Emphasis is on graded practical assessments, assignment deadlines and external tests.
This course will also include an evening commercial session once skills are developed and additional opportunities within the week may become available within the College salon to maximise commercial practice under the guidance of the barbering teaching team.
Work-based – if currently working in a hair salon, this qualification is also available through work-based learning and apprenticeship routes.
This course normally runs one day per week, for 34 weeks, starting in September.
- If under 19, relevant Level 1 or two GCSEs at grade D or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/First Language Welsh
- Good personal presentation and communication skills are required
- Each application is considered on individual merit
Learn to:
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Advise and consult with clients
- Cut and style men’s hair
- Cut facial hair
- Create patterns in hair
- Colour men’s hair
- Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
Learners will also be expected to undertake work experience in a salon.
Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
