Is this course right for me?
People of any age can undertake an apprenticeship in Business Administration or Management.
The following apprenticeships are available:
- Level 2 Business Administration
- Level 3 Business Administration
- Level 4 Business Administration
Level 2 and 3 apprenticeships comprise of:
- An NVQ qualification combining knowledge and competence (assessed in the workplace)
- Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy Qualifications unless you are exempt
Level 4 apprenticeships (Higher Apprenticeships) comprise of:
- An NVQ qualification which is assessed in the workplace
- Technical Certificate (knowledge only based qualification)
- Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy Qualifications unless you are exempt
- Upon completion of a Higher Apprenticeship (equivalent to HNC or HND), you will be invited to attend the College’s Graduation Ceremony at St David’s Cathedral.
To apply for an apprenticeship, you must have an employer willing to employ you for the duration of your apprenticeship.
Your employer will need to:
- Provide us with evidence of suitable insurance and evidence of your employment status
- Be happy to discuss Health and Safety procedures with your assessor
- Pay you the appropriate national minimum wage including time to attend College workshops
- Contribute to monthly planned assessor visits/appointments to observe you and discuss your progress
We will ask you to provide a copy of the following certificates;
- your highest-level qualification
- if you hold GCSEs in English or Welsh and Maths or Numeracy
There are specific requirements for activities you need to be able to carry out in the workplace. After you have applied, an assessor will contact you and your employer to discuss how to meet these requirements and determine which level qualification to enrol upon. We may also use other literacy and numeracy assessments, called WEST, to assess your suitability.
Places on Apprenticeship Programmes are limited and subject to capacity. If you do not have an employer but are volunteering for at least 16 hours per week then please still apply and we can discuss alternative options with you.

What will I learn?

Business Administration
Level 2 is for those in a business administration environment and provide administration support, learner can choose a number of optional units which include human resources, finance and managing Information.
Qualification: City & Guilds Level 2 Business Administration 5528 – 02
Level 3 is for those wanting to develop their business administrative skills and knowledge across a more comprehensive range of business skills. Choose from a range of optional units including development of information systems, analysing data and creating bespoke business documentation.
Qualification: City & Guilds Level 3 Business Administration 5528 – 03
Level 4 is for those working in a senior business administration role that necessitates working with autonomy and personal responsibility. Choose from a range of optional units including implementing plans, initiating changes, monitoring information systems. For those following the apprenticeship route, you will also be required to complete an additional knowledge only based qualification to achieve the apprenticeship framework.
Qualifications: City & Guilds Level 4 Business Administration 5528 – 04 and Technical Certificate: City & Guilds Level 4 Diploma in Business and Professional Administration 4710-04 (Apprenticeship route only)
Can I do this course in Welsh?
Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
How will I be assessed?
- Portfolio of evidence
- If taken as an apprenticeship then reviews with your assessor and employer will take place every 1-2 months and you will be expected to have developed your skills and knowledge between each review
What can I do next?
Upon completion, learners can progress onto the next level. You will be invited to attend the College’s Graduation ceremony upon completion of Level 4 and 5 apprenticeships (Higher apprenticeship and equivalent of HNC / HND).
