Is this course right for me?

Whether you need it to progress your career further or you want to help your children and grandchildren at home, this could be the course for you. The English Language GCSE is a key requirement for many job roles and passing this qualification demonstrates an understanding of the makeup of texts and sources as well as equipping you with writing and reading skills.

No matter if you sat your GCSE English qualification equivalent 5 years ago or 40 years ago. The College tutors are here to help.

This course normally runs one evening per week, for 33 weeks, starting in September.

  • No formal entry requirements
  • Each application is considered on individual merit

Units to be studied include:

  • Oracy – Individual Researched Presentation & Responding and Interacting
  • Reading and Writing – Description, Narration and Exposition
  • Reading and Writing – Argumentation, Persuasion and Instructional

Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

  • Practical assessment during the course
  • Written examination

Access to A-level English, to help meet the requirements for certain degree level courses.

  • Stationery - you will be told about any specific items before you start the course
