Michaela Protheroe, a Skills for Further Study student was recently awarded the Worshipful Livery Company of Wales Literacy Award.

With a long-term dream of qualifying to become a marine biologist, Michaela signed up to College in order to obtain her GCSEs in English and Maths before hoping to progress to the Access to Bioscience programme as a stepping stone to university.

Having left school with no qualifications to bring up two children, Michaela was thrilled to have her efforts recognised with the Literacy Award which she’ll use to purchase books and a laptop to help with her future studies.

Founded in 1993, the Worshipful Livery Company of Wales (WLCOW) promotes education, the arts, science and technology in Wales. It is dedicated to helping young people to develop their talents and skills by means of an annual awards programme of scholarships and bursaries to students in schools, universities and technical colleges across Wales, as well as to apprentices and young people in the armed forces.
