Futures in Employment (Military and Protective Services)
This course is suitable for learners who are uncertain about their career path and seek a program with a practical focus to ready themselves for future employment opportunities or further study.
It is also suitable for those wishing to undertake a practical course that develops a wide range of skills required for a potential career in Protective Services such as the police, fire, ambulance, border agencies or the British Armed Forces (British Army, Royal Air Force or Royal Navy, including Royal Marines).
Is this course right for me?
This course will build your understanding of a variety of careers, improve your health and fitness levels, your confidence, personal administration, self-discipline and work on your leadership, teambuilding and communication skills. In addition to this, you have the opportunity to gain knowledge in leading a healthy lifestyle, leading your peers and how to deal with basic First Aid scenarios.
- Two GCSEs at grade G or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/English Literature/First Language Welsh and Mathematics/Numeracy
- Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
- Successful completion of relevant programme (including skills) and decision from progression board meeting
The content of the programme is underpinned by the 5 Ways to Wellbeing, building skills across the wide range of areas including:-
- Connect with Others – teamwork and leadership, field craft outdoors, careers and personal progression plan for employment or further study
- Be Physically Active – a wide variety of physical activity sessions
- Learn New Skills – problem solving, communication skills, basic first aid, navigation and practical skills
- Give to Others – developing resilience skills, confident in working with others and community work outdoors
- Pay Attention to the Present Moment – Health and Wellbeing and lifestyle activities

Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST) in upskilling / Lessons in Financial Education
A one year GCSE resit course in required subject/s
A one or two year pre-GCSE upskilling course
A one year GCSE START upskilling course
