This course will provide you with the knowledge, skills and practical experience needed to develop a successful career in Bricklaying. You will gain an understanding of:

• Social, economic and environmental sustainability within the construction and built environment sector.
• Employment opportunities and employability requirements within the construction industry.
• The professional behaviours and employability skills required in modern construction workplaces.
• Health and safety legislation and safe working practices when working on site, using equipment and working alongside other trades.
• The range of projects undertaken within the brickwork trade and how bricklayers work with other construction professionals throughout the design, construction, maintenance and refurbishment stages of a project.
• The tools, materials, techniques and technologies used within the brickwork industry and how these have evolved over time.
• The technical knowledge required to meet current industry and national occupational standards.
• Practical brickwork skills through the completion of a wide range of workshop and site-based tasks.
• How to effectively plan, organise and evaluate your own work to meet industry standards.

Core Units

You will study the following core units:

• Employment and Employability in the Construction Sector
• Changing Practices Over Time
• Planning and Evaluating Work in the Construction Sector in Wales

Specialist Brickwork Units

You will also study specialist units including:

• Brickwork Core Knowledge
• Set out to form masonry structures
• Erect masonry structures

• Continuous assessment during the course
• Practical assessment during the course
• Portfolio of evidence
• Online examination
• Completion of a final major project

Following successful completion of this course learners could seek an appropriate Apprenticeship or go directly into employment.
