City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Maintenance Operations

This course is aimed at those who wish to pursue a career within the building maintenance and care division of the industry. Incorporating an array of desirable skills as requested by employers looking for multi-skilled staff in areas such as, brickwork, decorating, plastering, plumbing and carpentry.

Is this course right for me?

This course will cover small-scale repairs in various trades in the Construction sector, for the following trades:

  • Building Repairs (Brickwork)
  • Painting and Decorating Repairs
  • Plastering Repairs
  • Plumbing Repairs
  • Carpentry Repairs
  • Three GCSEs at grade D or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/English Literature/First Language Welsh or Mathematics/Numeracy
  • Each application is considered on individual merit
  • Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
  • Successful completion of relevant Level 1 programme (including skills) and decision from progression board meeting

Modules covered will be:

  • Carry out small-scale building repairs
  • Carry out small-scale painting and decorating repairs
  • Carry out small-scale plastering repairs
  • Carry out small scale plumbing repairs
  • Carry out carpentry repairs
  • Health, safety, and welfare in construction
  • Principles of building construction, information and communication

  • the course you are taking at College
  • what grades you gained in your GCSE Maths and/or English Language

Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

  • Practical examination
  • Written examination
  • Online examination

Following successful completion of this course you may wish to progress to one of the Level 2 Foundation Qualification or Level 3 Apprenticeship routes.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Clothing, which you can purchase online before you start the course

  • You will need to pay a £55 construction workshop fee each year before you start the course
  • You can rent a locker for £10 per year this will be refunded if the locker remains undamaged and keys are returned
