EAL Level 3 Extended Progression in Electrotechnical Installation
This one-year part-time course is designed for those who want to continue their training to become a qualified electrician.

Is this course right for me?
For learners of all ages, this one-year part-time course is designed for those who want to prepare to work in the industry and to complete their training to become a qualified electrician.
Prospective applicants must be aware that the completion of this qualification does not mean that they are fully qualified electricians and to become a qualified electrician learners must work in the industry and also complete the the EAL Building Services Engineering (Level 3) – Electrotechnical Installation.
This course normally runs one day per week starting in September.
- You will be expected to have successfully completed the previous level in this subject area or similar
- Each application is considered on individual merit
Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of the principles, theories and practices required in the electrotechnical installation trade and of how these are performed in Wales.
The qualification comprises of the following units:
- The built environment in Wales
- Principles of establishing and maintaining relationships in the Building Services Engineering Sector
- Principles of Coordinating a work site
- Installation theory and technology
- Electrical inspection and testing
- Fault diagnosis and rectification
Delivery
One day per week in College for 34 weeks.
Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
- Continuous assessment during the course
- Practical assessment during the course
- Online examination
To become fully qualified as an electrician, learners must work in the industry and also complete the EAL Building Services Engineering (Level 3) – Electrotechnical Installation.
- Stationery - you will be told about any specific items before you start the course
- Electrical work trousers - £25
- Electrical safety boots/shoes - £14/£39
