Considering a career in Green Construction Skills? This course will help you develop practical skills in construction and plumbing, knowledge of renewable energy and prepare you for the CSCS card test.
Is this course right for me?
This UK Government funded course is a mixture of practical and theoretical instruction in our modern workshops and classes. You will practice building external walls and plumbing skills in the workshops, and learn about this, plus health and safety and renewable technologies in the classroom. You will gain 3 City and Guilds qualifications, including the Health and Safety Certificate which will allow you to sit your CSCS test and gain the CSCS card required for many construction sites.
This female only course has been designed as a direct response to the need to redress the problem that local and national employers are facing in not being able to recruit women into the construction and renewable industries. This course will help individuals become work-ready and the College can help support with job applications.
Learners will be supplied with suitable PPE, and on successful completion eligible learners will also be given a toolkit to keep.
This course is due to start on 12 January 2026 and will run 09:30 – 16:00. It will include 10 weeks of college tuition and 2 weeks of work experience with a local employer.
What are the entry requirements?

The course will cover the following qualifications:
- Solar Thermal and Heat Pumps – Introduction to Renewable Systems
- Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills 6219-05 – Units below
- Level 1 Award in Health & safety in a Construction Environment 6072-51
- City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Retrofit 7618-02
- Introduction to health and safety in construction
- Introduction to the construction industry
- Constructing half brick wall
- Removing and refitting water-filled radiators
- Bending and jointing copper pipes
- Constructing Cavity Walls in brickwork and block
Will I need to study additional English & Maths skills?

Workbased, progression pathway programmes within the Built Environment Faculty – you will study Essential Skills Wales (ESW) in Application of Number and Communications.
Jobs Growth Wales (JGW+) programme – will be timetabled into literacy and numeracy sessions. To discuss the opportunity of attending a GCSE resit programme, in addition to their JGW+ timetable, please contact skills@pembrokeshire.ac.uk
Life Skills Academy programmes – you will have opportunities to upskill in English and Maths through Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST) / Century or attending Essential Skills classes.
All other courses and those who have progressed through the internal progression route:
Upskilling Destination Programme – an hour and half session a week developing essential research skills, critical thinking, and academic writing techniques, supporting literacy, numeracy, digital literacy and employability skills
A one year GCSE Resit Programme in GCSE Mathematics Intermediate Tier (Welsh or English medium) / GCSE English Language
A one or two year pre-GCSE upskilling course in required subject/s – The priority of this programme (Foundation Maths for Mathematics pathway) is to build fundamental skill and knowledge, to prepare learners for progression onto the one-year, intermediate tier resit programme.
A one year pre-GCSE upskilling course in mathematics – The priority of this programme is to build fundamental skill and knowledge, to prepare learners for progression to the Foundation Maths programme.
Can I do this course in Welsh?

Following successful completion of this course learners could look to progress to a higher level course at the College, seek an appropriate Apprenticeship or go directly into employment.
