With a vast number of careers available across our Armed Forces, Emergency Services and Sports, this course is designed to give you a better understanding of these opportunities and to provide you with a range of skills including teamwork, communication and leadership.

Is this course right for me?
This is a great course for individuals looking to pursue a career in the field of sport, public services, health and physical activity related careers.
This one year programme investigates the theory of sport, teamwork and leadership and will provide you with essential knowledge surrounding the world of sport, working with others, career pathways, public service skills, community participation and physical activity.
The Sports Academies in football and rugby for male and female applicants will be studied alongside this course. All learners will be expected to participate and contribute to one of the sports academies organised by the College. The experience of having additional skill acquisition, analysis of performance and team ethics will further enhance students understanding of group dynamics benefitting them in their future employment.
What are the entry requirements?
- Three GCSEs at grade D or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/English Literature/First Language Welsh or Mathematics/Numeracy
- Should demonstrate a keen interest in physical activity and be physically fit
- Each application is considered on individual merit
- Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
Current student - what are the entry requirements?
- Successful completion of relevant Level 1 programme (including skills) and decision from progression board meeting
- GCSE English Language/First Language Welsh or Mathematics/Numeracy at grade D or above
- or evidence of improvement from internal GCSE/s

- Employment in uniformed public services and sport
- Health and fitness
- Activities and teamwork
- Sport and recreation
- Practical sport
- Anatomy and physiology for sports
- Development for personal fitness
- Planning and leading sports activities
You will be required to attend tutorials as part of this programme.
Will I need to study additional English & Maths skills?
- the course you are taking at College
- what grades you gained in your GCSE Maths and/or English Language
If you are studying a construction/trade course (brickwork, carpentry, electrical or plumbing):
- Essential Skills Wales (ESW) in Application of Number and Communications
All other courses:
- Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST) in upskilling / Lessons in Financial Education
- A one year GCSE resit course in required subject/s
- A one or two year pre-GCSE upskilling course
- A one year GCSE START upskilling course
Can I do this course in Welsh?

Career opportunities across sports and public services include: Personal Trainer, Nutritionist, Gym Instructor, Sports Therapist, Fitness Coach, Sports Scientist, Army, Navy or Royal Air Force, Sport Development, PE Teacher, Football Development, Police, Development Manager, Community Sports Coach, Talent Identification Manager, Ambulance Services, Sport Rehabilitator, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Sports Physiotherapist, Referee, Ski Instructor, Outdoor Adventure Instructor, Performance Analyst or any other Protective/Public Service.
Following successful completion of this course learners could look to progress to a higher level course at the College, seek an appropriate Apprenticeship or go directly into employment.

- Football Academy kit - £160 (if applicable)
- Rugby Academy kit - £120 (if applicable)

Are there any additional costs?
- No tuition fee
- We are waiving the Administration Fee for the academic year 2024/25
- You will need to pay a £60 fitness facility fee each year before you start the course
