Learning to sew is such a useful skill to have, yet we seem to have lost the ability over the last few decades. Times are a changing and learning how to repair clothes, sew on buttons and understand the basic stitches is a good start to building up a skill we should all have.

Is this course right for me?

During this eight week introductory course you will learn and practice a variety of sewing techniques by making samples. Topics will be covered in a logical order enabling you to build up a portfolio of essential sewing skills.

You will then be able to apply these techniques outside of the classroom to make up a garment of your choice.

This course is non-accredited so you will not be assessed. It is for personal development and fun!

This eight-week course runs on a Wednesday, 18:00 – 20:00, Pembrokeshire College Main Campus.

  • No formal entry requirements
  • The learner must be over the age of 18
  • How to use your sewing machine including threading, stitches, tensions, different needles and threads.
  • Types of seams and fabrics
  • Top stitching, darts, gathering, curves and corners
  • Interfacing, facing and zips
  • Waistbands, cuffs, elastic, soft collars and button holes
  • Using and understanding patterns

You will receive a College completion certificate at the end of the course.

Learners have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.
