City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Engineering (Welding)
The industry provides a wide range of exciting, varied and rewarding career opportunities for skilled individuals.
Is this course right for me?
This one year course which is specific to the oil and gas industry will provide a ‘hands on’ approach to introductory welding training and has been designed fill an identified gap in the market for introductory welding skills.
- Two GCSEs at grade D or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include Mathematics/Numeracy
- Each application is considered on individual merit
- Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
- Successful completion of relevant programme (including skills) and decision from progression board meeting
As part of this course you will study a range of introductory units which are related to welding and fabrication for progression into the engineering construction industry including:
- Working in engineering
- MAG welding
- MMA welding
You will also be expected to attend regular tutorials.
You may need to study an additional skills course depending on:
- the course you are taking at College
- what grades you gained in your GCSE Maths and/or English Language

Successful completion of this course and progression to a higher level programme could lead to a number of future career opportunities including: Welder, Offshore Driller, Maintenance Engineer, Asset Inspector, Piping Engineer, Instrument Pipe Fitter, Machinist, Plater, Process Operative, Rigger, Safety Technician.
Following successful completion of this course learners could look to progress to a higher level course at the College, seek an appropriate Apprenticeship or go directly into employment.
- Stationery - you will be told about any specific items before you start the course
- Engineering flame retardant coveralls - £35
- Engineering safety boots - £14/£35

- No tuition fee
- We are waiving the Administration Fee for the academic year 2023/24
- There is an annual workshop fee for this course (£20 - £60), payable before you start the course
