Demand for welders and Fabricators has seen a significant rise in demand and earning potential has continued to increase. Pembrokeshire has recently seen exciting developments within the oil and gas sector and ongoing developments in the growing renewables sector show that there will be a significant need for skilled Welders and Fabricators for many years to come.

This course is aimed at learners who work or want to work as fabrication and welding engineers in the engineering sector.

This 34 week (one academic year) course normally runs on a Friday, 09:00 – 17:00, starting in September.
- Each application is considered on individual merit
- Entry is subject to an informal interview
Mandatory units to be studied include:
- Engineering Health and Safety
- Principles of Engineering Technology
- Principles of Fabrication and Welding Technology
Learners can choose from optional units including:
- Welding by manual metal arc
- Welding by MIG process
- Welding by oxy-acetylene
- Maintaining electrical equipment and systems
- Fabricating sheet metalwork
- Fabricating thick plate, bar and sections
- Fabricating pipework assemblies
- Fabricating steelwork assemblies
If you do not currently hold qualifications in GCSE Maths and English, you may be required to undertake the following:
- Essential Communication Skills (ECommS)
- Essential Application of Number Skills (EAoNS)
Learners are able to complete either the full qualification or certain units or elements through the medium of Welsh/bilingually.
- Practical examination
- Written examination
- Online examination
Following successful completion of this course learners could look to progress to a higher level course at the College, seek an appropriate Apprenticeship or go directly into employment.
