Creating an Impression: Graduate Artwork Showcased in Wales Week London

Fine Art Graduate Work

Nine Pembrokeshire College BA (Hons) Fine Art graduates’ work was recently exhibited in The Gallery Yr Oriel in Newport, Pembrokeshire and is now going to be displayed in Woolff Gallery, Fitzrovia London during Welsh Art Week (1st March – 4th March).

The Gallery Yr Oriel launched the first BA (Hons) Fine Art Graduate Show on 27th January with an Opening Evening welcoming members of the public and local artists to admire the diverse array of art. The Pembrokeshire College graduates who featured in the exhibition were; Adam Davies, Jess Kate, Mandie Davies, Tunde Komar, Kevin McCarney, Indira Mukherji, Katy Rowe, Faith Ryder and Lee Woodmass.

The Art Show in The Gallery Yr Oriel was a great success with two pieces being purchased during the launch event. Woolff Gallery in London is next to showcase the graduates’ work for Wales Week London in March. This will be the ninth Welsh Art Week that celebrates Welsh culture through art with special guests Jamie Owen, Welsh author and broadcaster, and Welsh harpists Marian O’Toole and Heledd Wynn Newton. A new book ‘Branding the Welsh Nation’ by Peter Lord and Rhian Davies is also going to feature alongside Pembrokeshire College graduates’ art.

The Gallery Yr Oriel spokesperson shared: “It is a great privilege to promote these students, and their pieces of artwork exemplify how the course allows for a breadth of study across the disciplines with hands-on workshops and studio sessions which underpins the value of a holistic creative process.”

Phil Ratcliff, Programme Director of BA (Hons) Design Studies at Pembrokeshire College commented: “It is such a privilege for a selection of our degree graduates to be involved with the Welsh Art Week held in London. For me personally, it is so rewarding to know that this work is a reflection of the commitment and dedication of the Art and Design teaching team at Pembrokeshire College.”
