On Thursday (17 November 2022), Emma Jones, Head of the BA Fashion Promotion degree at the University of South Wales came to visit students on the College’s Graphic Design & Illustration and Sustainable Design courses.
Emma provided learners with an insight into the range of creative degree courses that the University of South Wales has to offer and led a workshop for our year one creative learners. In the afternoon, Emma worked with year two students who are working on their Skills Competition Wales ‘Visual Merchandising’ entries. Following the visit, Emma kindly gave the creative department some useful reference and sketchbook material.
Course leader Louise Sheppard noted: “It was a colossal effort to visit armed with so much kit, which included a rack of clothes and the gift of some model window kits. We will definitely make use of these kits in preparation for the Skills Wales Competition entries for Visual Merchandising.”
The College also welcomed back ex-student Lily Sheppard, who is now a year three BA Fashion Promotion student in the University of South Wales. Lily shared “It was lovely being back in my old workspace.”
Lily reflected on the opportunities she has enjoyed during her time at university in Cardiff and shed light on some of the projects she has worked on.
Louise stated ‘‘It was great to see Lily and for the students to be able to ask her about her work, university life and her studies.”
Emma commented “I really enjoyed it and hope we can build on these kinds of days. Maybe you can come to us next time and we’ll roll it into a research trip.”
The Graphic Design & Illustration and Sustainable Design students were certainly inspired and interested in studying the Fashion Promotion course at the University of South Wales and are looking forward to visiting soon.
