Thinking about a career in finance but unsure where to begin? The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping is designed to give you the perfect introduction ina supportive and accessible way.
Whether you are looking to change direction, return to education, or build new skills, this course provides a clear and confident first step.
This course is ideal if you:
• Are completely new to accounting
• Want to explore a career in finance or business
• Are looking to improve your skills and confidence
• Prefer a structured, supportive introduction before progressing further
This course will take place 1 evening per week for 16 weeks starting in September 2026
- No formal entry requirements
- Each application is considered on individual merit
During the course you will develop practical knowledge that is used in real businesses every day, including:
- Understanding income and expenditure
- Identifying profit and loss
- Recognising assets and liabilities
- Recording simple financial transactions
These are essential skills that form the backbone to any successful organisation.
Learners may have the option to complete course assessment/assignments or elements of the course through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. Visit our Welsh Language in the College page to find out what else is available to you.

Successful students can progress to the Associated Accounting Technician Programme (AAT Level 2)
- Stationery - you will be told about any specific items before you start the course
- Textbooks - you will be told about any specific items before you start the course, most textbooks are available to loan from the college library or online libraries
