WJEC A-level Further Mathematics
Aimed at able mathematicians who have a real passion for the subject and want to take up additional, in depth modules.
Is this course right for me?
This course is intended to extend and develop the mathematical knowledge and skills that you obtain when studying A-level Mathematics.
Mathematics A-level is sufficient for most learners and Further Mathematics is only taken by the more able who aim to pursue careers in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering or related disciplines.
- Five GCSEs at grade C or above (may include one relevant equivalent) to include English Language/First Language Welsh and Mathematics/Numeracy
- Maths and Numeracy grade A (Also need to study AS Mathematics)

- Each application is considered on individual merit
- Entry is subject to attending a course information session or informal interview
- Successful completion of relevant programme (including skills) and decision from progression board meeting
You will be encouraged to develop confidence in, and a positive attitude towards, mathematics and to recognise its importance in your own life and to society.
Units to be studied will be built upon each year:
- Further pure mathematics
- Further statistics
- Further mechanics
Learners also complete the Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales and are required to develop their essential skills (communication/numeracy and digital skills). Learners will also attend a weekly group tutorial.
