This introductory course is designed for adult learners who would like a taster of basic plumbing and electrical skills in a practical and supportive learning environment. The course provides hands-on experience with simple activities and introduces learners to the skills and knowledge required for basic tasks.

This engaging and practical introductory course is designed to provide learners with a strong foundation in both the theory and hands-on skills required to work safely and confidently with basic plumbing and electrical systems.

- You should be physically capable of completing the practical elements of this course
- Each application is considered on individual merit
- Learners must be at least 16 years old
Plumbing
Learners will gain experience carrying out essential plumbing maintenance tasks, including repairing dripping taps, replacing tap washers, and servicing ball valves commonly found in domestic water systems. The course also introduces learners to the skills and techniques required to join, shape, and fabricate a variety of plumbing materials using industry-standard methods and tools. Through guided practical activities, learners will explore different pipework systems and develop an understanding of how materials are prepared, connected, and installed safely and effectively.
Electrical
Learners will explore key areas including domestic electrical components, simple circuit design, safe isolation procedures, wiring techniques, and the principles of electrical safety. The course also introduces fundamental concepts such as Ohm’s Law and the operation of common household electrical installations.
Health & Safety
Learn all aspects of health & safety in a plumbing and electrical setting, learning to identify hazards, use the correct equipment and have a knowledge of safety rules in the construction industry.
Delivered in a supportive and practical learning environment, this course is an excellent stepping stone for anyone looking to develop valuable trade skills, improve confidence with plumbing and electrical work, or progress towards further training and employment within the construction and building services industries.
