Creative Destinations: Learners Explore Swansea

Students creative visit to Swansea - Glynn Vivian Gallery

A group of Pembrokeshire College students from Creative Media Production, Graphic Design and Sustainable Textile Design recently visited Swansea as part of their ‘Destination’ programme.

The creative learners visited the University of Wales Trinity Saint David Swansea College of Art to explore the range of creative degree courses on offer, see the facilities and get a hands-on experience participating in creative activities to help them decide their future career aspirations.

Staff from the Surface Pattern Design, Graphic Design, Photography and Fine Art departments gave learners who expressed an interest in their field a tour of the facilities and workspaces along with a talk about their courses. Those interested in Surface Pattern Design were also offered a sewing activity using laser cut and UV printed shapes.

As well as focusing on progressing their education, the College learners also had the opportunity to be inspired by creative industry work in the Glynn Vivian Gallery where they saw an exhibition of props, costumes and concept art from the current BBC series ‘His Dark Materials.’ This series is filmed and produced in Wales by Bad Wolf Studios, in places such as Cardiff and the Brecon Beacons.

Creative Media Production lecturer, Denys Bassett-Jones commented: “It was a fascinating trip all round which helped the learners discover the opportunities for progression on from their current courses. There was certainly a buzz of excitement on the bus home!”
